The George Reed Family Legacy
1944 – A Foundation of Integrity and Respect

In partnership with his father, Guilford, and older brother, Ted, George Reed began agricultural land leveling and canal building with mules and Fresno scrappers in the Tracy area of California in the 1930’s. The brothers separated during the Depression. In 1944, building on a reputation for integrity and respect for customers and co-workers, George began a construction business with his wife Rose doing the accounting.
1953 – A Passion for Operational Excellence

After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a couple of years in the Army Corp of Engineers, Wendel joined his father in 1953. Together they built George Reed Inc. into a vertically integrated construction and materials business with the addition of sand & gravel plants, quarries, asphalt hot plants, and concrete ready-mix operations. Following a teaching career, his wife Norma joined the business in 1975 to manage the downtown Modesto rental properties, housing the home office functions for the expanding family of Reed Companies. With a belief that “there is nothing we do today, that we can’t do better tomorrow”, Wendell and Norma’s legacy is a family business known for Excellence.
